About this Airport

Airport overview

Originally opened in 1948 as New York International Airport, it was renamed in 1963 in honor of the assassinated president. JFK is the busiest international air gateway in North America and hosts a striking mix of airline terminals, including the historic TWA Flight Center, a mid-century modernist building now restored as a hotel. It sits along Jamaica Bay, giving many arriving flights sweeping views of the New York City skyline.
